WORCESTER, Mass., Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Access Fixtures is introducing specialized EPA rated poles for lighting used in high wind zone areas. The structural integrity of the EPA rated steel poles meets code and reduces or prevents damage caused by high winds in areas prone to hurricanes. Poles are typically used for outdoor sports lighting and parking lot lighting. Southern coastal states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas have codes that require EPA rated poles for lighting.

“EPA rated lighting poles enable property managers to meet or exceed code using poles that are designed for their individual lighting projects,” said Access Fixtures CEO, Steven Rothschild. He continued, “The poles are ideal for areas such as the Florida Gulf coast where there are extremely strong winds, as they may reduce or eliminate damage caused by sustained winds.”

EPA which is the effective projected area of a fixture is equal to the area “visible” by the wind at a particular angle. Each combination of a pole, fixture(s) and tenon will have an EPA. The total EPA and weight mounted on any pole must not exceed the pole’s maximum rating for the wind zone in which it is located. High wind zones are areas that experience wind gusts between 110 to 130 mph. All poles and hardware are protected from rust and corrosion by a chromate conversion coating and a powder coat of paint. Poles can be custom cut to requested lengths or painted to any RAL color.
