Southern coastal states that are prone to hurricanes have codes that require EPA rated poles for lighting. States include North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas. Access Fixtures now has specialized EPA rated poles for lighting used in high wind zone areas, such as tennis court lighting or parking lot lighting. The structural integrity of the EPA rated steel poles meets code and reduces or prevents damage caused by high winds. Read more about our new EPA rated poles and thoughts from CEO of Access Fixtures, Steven Rothschild, in the recent press release.

EPA (Effective Projected Area)  is equal to the area “visible” by the wind at a particular angle. Each combination of a pole, fixture(s) and tenon will have an EPA. The total EPA and weight mounted on any pole must not exceed the pole’s maximum rating for the wind zone in which it is located. High wind zones are areas that experience wind gusts between 110 to 130 mph. EPA rated lighting poles enable property managers to select poles that are designed for their individual lighting projects.
