A retail store owner contacted Access Fixtures. He has track lights that use 90w PAR38 lamps. Can he convert them to LED and save energy?

Assuming you’re using PAR38 lamps with open style track heads which allows air to circulate around the LED lamps, you can change the lamps from halogen lamps to LED lamps. Access Fixtures recommends a lamp from this list of products. For optimal display and accurate color, use the 20.3 watt Toshiba PAR38 LED Lamp in 3000K.

Upgrading to LED lighting will save a significant amount in energy costs. Since this is retail and the lights are on a lot, the payback is quick. If the luminaires are on 7 days a week/12 hours a day, the retrofit will save $46.30 per LED lamp for a total savings of $2,300.10 per year. Payback for the initial cost of the retrofit is less than a year and a half.

When purchased in large quantities, Access Fixtures can discount the price of the lamps. For further savings, Toshiba lamps are Energy Star-rated and qualify for rebates when available. Contact an Access Fixtures lighting specialist to learn more and to determine if rebates are available in your area.
