T5 High Bay Lighting in a Pewter Work Shop

T5 High Bay Lighting in a Pewter Work Shop

Using T5 high bay lighting (or T5HO high bay lighting) to illuminate a warehouse or workshop is inexpensive and energy-efficient, so it was not a surprise when Access Fixtures lighting specialists received a call from a pewter shop in Louisiana. The pewter shop owner was looking to light the inside of their workshop using T5 lighting. He required extremely high light levels, excellent color rendering, and very white light. Additionally, the owner of the shop was looking for a vapor proof fixture that would prevent dust and particles from the pewter molding process entering the fixture and reducing light output.

The pewter work they perform is ornate and very detailed. The workers have to be able to see what they are doing in an environment with even white light. Pewter is a reflective surface, requiring the workspace to not have light hot spots. Spotlights or task lighting would not work as it would create hot spots. Even the selection of 6-lamp T5 vapor tight high bays would not work as it did not distribute the light as evenly as 4-lamp T5 vapor tight high bay luminaires.

Access Fixtures was able to provide a solution using 4-lamp vapor tight T5 high bay fixtures. The lamps to be used were 4-foot linear fluorescent lamps with a Kelvin temperature of 5000K and a CRI of 80+, providing a crisp white light that would allow the workers to see every detail of the piece they are working on. This solution will provide the workshop with ample light to ensure the workers could clearly see the pieces they were crafting while preventing dust and other particles from entering the fixture.
