DLC Qualified LED Troffers as Low as $75 With Rebates

WORCESTER, Mass., Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Now property managers can upgrade from T12 or T8 linear fluorescent troffers to energy-efficient LED troffers and surface mount LED flat panel light fixtures at significantly reduced prices using rebates from energy suppliers. The LED troffers and surface mount LED flat panel fixtures are DesignLights Consortium (DLC) qualified and available from Access Fixtures. All versions are energy efficient and rated for 50,000 hour life, which is more than 17 years operating 8 hours a day. Dimming drivers and prismatic clear diffusers for higher lumen output are standard. LED troffers are priced as low as $75 per unit after rebate. “Local utilities typically provide incentives for property managers who want to become more energy efficient,” said Access Fixtures CEO, Steven Rothschild. He continued, “When you combine the savings from reduced energy use and rebates from local utilities, LED troffers have a quick return on investment.” LED troffers and surface mount LED flat panel light fixtures are designed as an energy-efficient replacement for traditional linear fluorescent fixtures for commercial and institutional markets. While they resemble the look of traditional linear fluorescent fixtures, they operate with the benefits of LED technology and have superior color rendering. For example, PSEG Long Island offers a $90 rebate per unit for 2×4 LED troffers and $70 for 2×2 fixtures. Energy Rebates Lower LED Troffers Prices to All Time Lows

Access Fixtures has announced LED troffers are at all-time low prices with new lower prices and when combined with energy rebates from local utilities. LED troffers are an energy efficient replacement for linear fluorescent lighting commonly found in commercial and office buildings. LED fixtures have longer lives, reduced energy use, lower maintenance, and do not contain Mercury. Now with the addition of aggressive energy rebates in many locations, LED troffers also have a faster return on investment. “LED troffers are excellent replacements for fluorescent troffers, and they are dimmable, reducing energy use and extending life,” said CEO of Access Fixtures Steven Rothschild. He continued, “With the combined savings from reduced energy consumption, lower maintenance, and rebates, the ROI for LED troffers is well worth the only slightly higher initial price, especially in large commercial or institutional areas with many fixtures to replace.” The LED troffers fit standard T-bar grid drop ceilings or are available for surface mounting. They are available in sizes 1’x4′, 2’x2′ and 2’x4′. Rebates are significant and are available throughout most of the USA. For example, purchasers of the 45w ECO-T LED Recessed Troffers located on Long Island in NY can receive a rebate of $100 per fixture through Long Island Power Authority netting the 2’x2′ LED troffer down from $145 to $45 after rebate. In Baltimore, MD, BGE offers $60 per fixture. In Houston, TX, Center Point Energy offers $0.08 per kWh saved annually. Orange is the New Black – LED is the New Light

Access Fixtures received a call from an electrical contractor looking for LED fixtures to light hallways inside of a penal facility in Arizona. The current light fixtures were 2-lamp T12 luminaires in the ceiling. The penal facility was looking to save money and increase light levels inside the facility. An Access Fixtures lighting specialist was able to provide the perfect solution. The solution consisted of replacing the T12 luminaires with LED flat panels that could be surface mounted on the existing ceiling where the old luminaires were. The benefits of these LED flat panels include a higher CRI, longer life, less energy use, and the ability select the Kelvin temperature of the light being emitted. The LED flat panel provides a color rendering index (CRI) score of 84 as opposed to 62 from the T12 lamps. The higher CRI allows prison guards in the facility to more accurately see the colors of anything in the building including people and objects, consequently providing a safer environment. In addition, the LEDs have a rated life of 50,000 hours, 20% longer life than the average life of T12 lamps. The 1’x4’ surface mount LED flat panel draws only 45w of energy, reducing energy use by 30%. Finally, being able to choose the Kelvin temperature of the light allows the facility to get a very white light providing a stark and sterile appearing environment. The prison management decided the surface mount flat panels would meet all criteria of the facility as well as provide numerous benefits that would increase the look and feel of the hallways, and the electrical contractor got the contract...

LED Challenges Fluorescent Lighting in Troffers

Just five years ago in 2010, four out of five lamps in commercial buildings were fluorescent, with most of them used in troffer luminaires, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). LED’s rapidly advancing technology has posed a challenge for the workhorse of the lighting industry. While LED may not have been the ideal choice in 2010, it has come a long way in a short amount of time. The DOE estimates that LED troffers increased from 40,000 units in 2010 to nearly 700,000 units in 2012. In the past two years, manufacturers report that demand for LED troffers has escalated, estimating 15+ percent of new troffer luminaires sold today use LEDs as the light source. LED once posed many concerns in its first generation technology, including light levels, light quality, performance and high cost. It’s important to understand that LED lighting isn’t what it used to be, and is now a viable and high-performing option. In some cases, LED luminaires are priced lower than traditional lighting technologies, and this will likely continue to be the trend as the technology advances. The DOE estimates that energy savings for an individual LED troffer project can be more than 25 percent. LED troffers typically operate at a 20 percent higher efficacy than traditional fluorescent systems operating at 100 lumens per watt, with a number of LED products reaching efficacies as high as 150 lumens per watt. For additional savings, LED troffers are generally rated for 50,000 without having to replace lamps. In the future, LED troffers will be rated at LM70 at 100,000 hours, and will actually last longer when used with dimmers....

Business Owners Prioritize Lighting Quality and Energy Savings

Is energy savings the most important factor when finding a solution for your lighting project? According to a recent poll, a surprising number of business owners have concerns that rival energy savings. A poll by Leapfrog Lighting asked a randomized sample of 200 business owners and managers, “What is the most important reason you are considering (or have used) LED lighting in your business?” While it was expected that energy savings would continue to be the most important factor at 50.5%, it was surprising to find that 31.4% of respondents identified lighting quality as main reason. The 31.4% of respondents who selected lighting quality are divided into “consistent quality of lighting” (16.9%), “pleasant environment to work in” (8.4%) and “pleasing retail/gallery displays” (6.1%). These percentages highlight the growing importance of light quality as opposed to energy savings. Access Fixtures LED troffers provide both energy savings and superior light quality for business owners and managers. They are ideal for retail spaces, offices, schools and hospitals with accurate color rendering and minimal glare. Furthermore, only 18.1% of business owners chose “I’m not considering LED lighting,” demonstrating that LED lighting is becoming more...
